Did the government compare the cost of operating in Ghana vs that of Nigeria?
These sound bites without the needed research by the rent control won’t go anywhere. If they want to address rent prices they should start with land prices and high costs of putting up structures in Ghana

Some times we blame the government in the sense that, they need put regulatory measures where no hostels owner can't charge beyond but if sit idle and allow them to do what they want,how can sanity in price system. Some of the Lord I asked myself what do the money for and again do they have family somewhere who are facing rent problem.

1. Salaries for Managers, Porters, Cleaners, Security Personnel.

2. Provision of beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, DSTV, water, electricity, standby generator and fuel.

3. Maintenance of buildings, frequent repairs of furniture, plumbing fittings and electrical fittings as a result of misuse by occupants.

4. Annual charges by government institutions in respect of business registration, business operating permit, property rate, stool land rent, EPA permit, Ghana Tourism Permit, Rent Tax, Income tax.

5. High standard of facilities required by pampered students.

Mr Commissioner what about private residence(s) being used for hostel facilities. A lot around Ayeduase New Site and beyond. No security no steward, no cleaners etc. Some even have dogs within the premises which is dangerous and places the students lives at risk. Collection of refuse is a problem so they burn up the refuse in front of the house and sometimes inside the house just to hide it from neighbors.
The fees charge are not different from the real/licensed hostels.
They are all over the place and the affected students can lead the authorities to these diabolic landlords.

When did this high hostel fees come to the notice of the commission ? Do you know the university staff association also are owners of these hostels, and are also charging the same exorbitant fees? I am surprised the commission failed to look at also the road situation at ayeduase hostels. It is like remotest part of South Sudan . They are waiting for a disaster to strike and all of a sudden the knust administration will wake up from their sleep. Students are being rip off with full support of knust administration . Tweaaa!!!!
