The Parliament of Ghana has confirmed the arrest of one of its members, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, widely known as OK Frimpong, in the Netherlands.

Information available to GhanaWeb indicates that the MP was arrested for his alleged involvement in some financial crimes, including money laundering and suspected “romance scams” involving an estimated amount of US$32 million.

Well, this is not the first time there have been reports of the arrest of the Asante Akyem North legislator.

In 2025, just months after his election to Parliament, OK Frimpong was reported to have been arrested in the UK over the same allegations. Some reports even claimed that he was arrested for abusing his ex-wife.

The Member of Parliament flatly refuted the allegations that he had been arrested in the UK.

In a video shared on social media, the MP, while refuting the allegation, played an audio message of one of his constituents, who he said was a teacher, rejoicing over his supposed arrest.

OK Frimpong, who left the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest in the 2024 election as an independent candidate, asserted that the constituent, a female teacher, was happy about his supposed arrest because he left the NPP.

“Abrantipa, I’m in my room, and you can’t imagine how happy I am. I called the engineer who went to Canada, but he said he was not aware and that I should call the MCE, who was in Agogo.

“... I called and asked him what was happening, and he said that he had also heard the same thing and that he had seen people posting it on some platforms that OK’s picture was among some persons who had been arrested,” she said.

She claimed that the MP was arrested for engaging in a crime after being monitored for a long time.

The MP, however, said that he was unperturbed by allegations of engaging in fraud and cocaine smuggling, adding that what makes him happy is giving opportunities to the poor and marginalised.

In another video reaction to the allegation in 2025, OK Frimpong claimed that his ex-wife was behind his ordeals.

He claimed that she wanted him “dead” and had unjustly reported him to the police.
