Dr Frank Amoakohene has confirmed he was in the same flight with OK Frimpong
More details are emerging on the circumstances under which the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, widely known as OK Frimpong, was arrested in the Netherlands.
Although the Parliament of Ghana has confirmed the arrest, not much is known about why the NPP was in the Netherlands.
New details indicate that the MP was in the company of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, and other Members of Ghana’s Parliament.
The new details also indicate that the MP was arrested upon arriving at an airport in the Netherlands.
These details are from a post shared by Amoakohene in response to a claim that he was with the Asante Akyem North legislator during the arrest.
A social media user by the name of Hajjia Halima TabarakAllah wrote on Facebook, “Dr Frank Amoakohene must come clean because he was with the Asante Akyem North MP when he was arrested.”
The Ashanti Regional Minister, in his response, confirmed that he was on the flight with OK Frimpong.
He, however, indicated that there were four New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament also on the flight.
“Instead of marketing their flag bearer, they take delight in marketing me. We were on the same flight, so what?... Four of your MPs were also on the flight; talk about them,” he wrote.
GhanaWeb first reported that the MP had been arrested by authorities in the Netherlands in connection with an investigation linked to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to sources familiar with the matter, the MP is being investigated for alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and suspected "romance scams" involving an estimated US$32 million.
