How he was arrested:
According to a source familiar with the matter, the MP was arrested moments after the plane touched down at Schiphol Airport.
After the plane landed and the passengers were about to disembark, the pilot announced that all passengers should remain in their seats for a security check.
Dutch security officials then boarded the plane and proceeded directly to the Business Class section, where the Asante Akyem North MP was reportedly seated alongside some government officials travelling on the same flight.
The security officials identified him, read him his rights and placed him in handcuffs before escorting him off the aircraft into a waiting security van.
Who the MP was with:
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, while responding to a critique on social media, affirmed that he was on the plane with OK Frimpong.
He also indicated that four Members of Parliament of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were on the flight as well.
"Instead of marketing their flag bearer, they take delight in marketing me. We were on the same flight, so what?... Four of your MPs were also on the flight; talk about them," he wrote.
Purpose of OK Frimpong’s travel
Information gathered by GhanaWeb indicates that the MP was using the Netherlands as a transit point to the United Kingdom.
He was reportedly travelling to London to visit his family. Reports indicate that the MP has, in the recent past, not been travelling directly to London to see his family, but often uses Holland as a transit point.
The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, in an interview with JoyNews on May 13, 2026, corroborated that OK Frimpong was travelling to London.
He said that the MP was on a private visit to London, even though he was using his diplomatic passport for the journey.

Arrest warrant
The South Dayi legislator, in the interview, also stated that OK Frimpong was arrested by Dutch security officials due to an arrest warrant issued by the United States government.
"The point is that the Asante Akyem North MP was intercepted and interrogated for some minutes and was told that there is a warrant issued by the United States government for his arrest and extradition.
"And that a warrant of arrest, once it is issued and given to INTERPOL, can be executed anywhere, whether it is known to your home country or not," he stated.
Allegations against OK Frimpong:
GhanaWeb earlier reported that sources within Ghana's law enforcement agencies had confirmed the reported arrest of Ohene Kwame Frimpong by authorities in the Netherlands in connection with an investigation linked to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to sources familiar with the matter, the MP is being investigated for alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and suspected "romance scams" involving an estimated US$32 million.
A source also told GhanaWeb that the investigation into the allegations has spanned more than a year.
