I recall former Member of Parliament Eric Amoateng's sons waving a flag of innocence on behalf of their father on ghanaweb when that MP was arrested in the USA for drug trafficking. Those same sons had nothing to say when that MP eventually entered a guilty plea on the charges against him and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Some family members seem to remember only the constant lavishing of large sums of money on them by an accused fraudster, but will never care to want to know how the accused came by all that money. The mother can profess her belief in her son's innocence, for that son surely never disclosed his criminal actions to her or members of his family. Unfortunately, these crying family members will rather wail and profess in the accused's innocence than take the trouble to look into court filings that say so much. Nothing but drama.
