But the Asante spirit is indomitable, energetic, entrenched, and unshakable. Enterprise is the creed of Asante. Loyalty to the Asantehene and the Golden Stool is complete. You can’t bend the arc of history and destiny.

This baseless hate-baiting of Asante will not stand. Why would Asante breakaway from Ghana when the tapestry of history goes to show the objective of their empire building adventures was to arrive at the same goal as the British, which is to build the state entity under one flag and integrated authority. Ghana today is essentially the same nation state Asante was on the path of building. Of course certain structures would have been different. For instance, Kumasi, rather than Accra would have been the seat of government. All would have been swearing oath of allegiance to the Golden Stool and the Asantehene etc. These minor differences don’t diminish the fact that Asante and the British were on the same track to create the geopolitical entity called Ghana today. Why would Asante now withdraw when their dream state enterprise was hurried along by the British?

Kwamena Ahwoi and people like him have benefited immensely from Asante and yet turn around to badmouth them behind closed doors. His type and politics is the reason Ghana’s growth is stunted, stagnant and disjointed. His politics has been to checkmate Ashanti. Their growth and development. He is the reason we don’t vote to elect our own District Assemblies members and chief executives/mayors on a party ticket. So we end up with MMDCE’s whose loyalty is to the appointing authority instead of the people they superintend over. Much of our stunted growth and development at the local and district level can be placed at the feet of Kwamena Ahwoi. What a miserable old chap.

Yes, the structures would have been different: the capital would likely be Kumasi, not Accra, and allegiance would be sworn to the Golden Stool. But those are details of architecture, not destination. The fundamental drive was toward the same unified nation state we call Ghana today. So why, then, would Asante now wish to break away from a country that essentially fulfilled—hurried along by colonial history—the very dream their forebears pursued?

Kwamena Ahwoi and those who share his playbook have benefited handsomely from the talent, resources, and resilience of Asante. Yet behind closed doors, the disparaging whispers continue. This is not just ingratitude; it is a political strategy that has come at a steep cost to Ghana’s development. The obsession with “checkmating” Ashanti—curbing its growth, diluting its voice—has given us a suffocating centralization. It is a major reason we still do not elect our own District Assembly members, chief executives, and mayors on a party ticket. Instead, we have MMDCEs whose primary loyalty tilts upward to the appointing authority, not downward to the communities they serve. Much of the stagnation and disjointed progress at the local level can be traced right back to this mindset—a mindset embodied and defended for decades by Kwamena Ahwoi.

Fear-driven politics may win short-term battles, but it cannot bend the arc of history. The Asante spirit remains unshakable, and Ghana’s full potential will only be unlocked when we retire the old, tired game of division for good.

Ashanti is a believe which shall grow stronger because the colonial construct we call Ghana today has come to the end of it's natural lifecycle - a Non-Tribal regions of Ashanti, Volta, Greater Accra, Central, etc. are a natural outputs of the current - because they are evolving in that direction by themselves already.

Our simple task is to legislate and give them advance governance systems. And we have to start by making tribalism and cessesion reasonable offences at all levels.

1. The country is too big and growing too fast to remain a Unitary-Centralised entity. Technically speaking, it is becoming ungovernable by itself.

2. The Unitary-Centralised state has bogged dowb the nation since colonial times while multi-cultural and multi-lingual regions have been created over time - these are enough.

Ghana does not have to follow a traditional federal system or devolved model as in developed countries. It can create it's own regionalised-state system to relieve the load on central government. And no social group can secede because of resource challenges.

And the fear of Ashanti is neocolonial scaremongering. With a thoughtful regionalisation based on dialogue Ghana will emerge as a great nation on it's way to advancement for the sake of its people. Forward. (Samuel Ofori-Sey).

Professor Ahwoi himself states correctly that Ghana (and almost all nations on earth) are social constructs - what I see is that that construct has come to the end of it's lifecycle so let's boldly replace it. Where I agree with the professor is on time-frame and processes based on cool-headedness and DIALOGUE with all sections of the society including security services.

A new non-tribalised/regionalised Ghana is the best option to advance the nation. The current Unitary-Centralised feeds on/from colonialism and has to go - neocolonialism has to end!

All nations are advanced by leaders within a process that sideline bigots and tribalists!

And that time has come upon Ghana to advance (and not just develop) because the natural lifecycle of a colonial Ghana is over - social integration shall accelerate contrary to what some believe and a sense of a unified nation shall intensify in the younger generation to the surprise of their parents.

The fear of a new regionalised Ghana which is not based on tribalism and bigotry is already here (and if in doubt, enquire from the upcoming generation and observe their culture).

The role of the older generation in this evolution will be guidance and cultural transition devoid of the hatred which has been rendered obsolete in time.

No one can stop the tide of time. "All things shall pass away in in their place there shall be new things" - this is our time to leave a better Ghana behind for our descendants.

If re-merger cannot be achieved now then regionalised non-tribal governance models have to be created in accordance with the main cultures of current regions to halt the total takeover by external entities to slow down and reverse neocolonialism - this is urgent.

1. The MMDA' is a State-District (districtisation) process which entrenches the authoritarian nature of a Unitary-Centralised state (neocolonialism).

2. What is needed for managing a bloated nation approaching 50 million citizens is a non-tribalised state-substate architecture similar to what most advanced nations employ. These have full regional-governments and sub-state parliaments with their elected leader (some call it a mayor).

PS: it is this substate nature of the region which reduces the load on the centralised state ans makes it leaner and more efficient. Those who are afraid of this change should note that the current system is struggling to function as governance structures because it has no legislative abilities lower down. There should be no rush but the process should start now because the weight of the nation is getting too heavy.

It's a no-brainer.

Do you know there are so many Ashantis in the Volta, born and raised by people who migrated from the Ashanti Region long ago? About a week ago, I gave a little hint of that here, mentioning certain prominent Asante names you can find in the Region.

Professor Ahwoi should have boldly told Ghanaians that the Matemeho(seperatist) movement of Busia, Nana Sir Agyemang Prempeh the second Asantehene and his chief linquist Baffuor Osei Yaw Akoto advocated for the secession of the Ashanti Region from Ghana.
They were not prepared to let the Ashanti Region be part of Ghana under a Kwame Nkrumah government.
