Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has questioned why affluent LGBTQ professionals in Ghana rarely take leading roles in public advocacy.
He said some members of the LGBTQ community have accumulated significant wealth and professional success but remain unwilling to publicly identify themselves.
“Some of them are so successful that if they stopped working today, they would still be comfortable for life,” he said.
Kpebu argued that individuals with financial security are better positioned to withstand public criticism and should therefore be at the forefront of advocacy efforts.
Instead, he claimed, many choose to remain anonymous while others carry the burden of public engagement.
“You don’t want to pay any price, but you want others to fight for you,” he said on TV3’s Keypoints on May 30, 2026.
He insisted that visible leadership would help humanise the issue and generate greater public understanding, adding that hiding behind professional success does little to advance the conversation.
