Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams has confirmed that Black Stars players selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will each receive an appearance fee of $100,000.

The announcement means the players will earn the same amount paid to members of the squads that featured at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.

While appearance fees have become a regular part of Ghana's World Cup participation, the figures have changed significantly over the years before settling at the current level.

2006 World Cup - $50,000

Ghana made their FIFA World Cup debut in Germany in 2006, with players receiving $50,000 each in appearance fees.

The Black Stars enjoyed a memorable tournament, reaching the round of 16 before being eliminated by Brazil.

2010 World Cup - About $82,500

For the World Cup in South Africa, player appearance fees increased significantly to approximately $82,500 per player.

The tournament remains Ghana's most successful World Cup campaign, with the Black Stars reaching the quarter-finals and narrowly missing out on a place in the last four after a penalty shootout defeat to Uruguay.

2014 World Cup - $100,000

The appearance fee was increased to $100,000 for the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

That World Cup was overshadowed by disputes over player payments, leading to the government airlifting millions of dollars in cash to Brazil before Ghana's final group match against Portugal.

2022 World Cup - $100,000

When Ghana returned to the World Cup in Qatar after missing the 2018 edition, players again received $100,000 each in appearance fees.

The Black Stars exited at the group stage after matches against Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia and will begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17.
