Mining lease should never be more than 2years and no foreigner or companies should be able to have such a concession without a Ghanaian representation in person or as a business entity. Our governments are a bunch crooks and wicked people who have taken us for granted for far too long. When your tenure is over you should be to fill all the areas mined up 70% of the natural resources destroyed to extract the minerals including top soil, agricultural produce, water bodies and human migration. The laws should be way more stringent to wade of illegal mining by Chinese and Indians. None of these foreigners should be mining in Ghana.

We voted you guys into power to serve us, listen to us and not the other way round, we are telling you not to renew the Tarkwa Goldfield Limited mining lease, period. There is no reasonable argument for us to renew the lease next year April, any argument in support of renewing the lease will be insultive to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people. We do not want any more freebies, loans, royalties, grants, bonds, coupons, taxes, treasury bills etc, we want to work and feed ourselves. We have had enough of abject poverty, hardship, lies, slavery and foreign investors stealing from us with no mercy. We want to live and not die, please do not abuse your power to override the wish of the Ghanaian people, do not renew any mining lease of any foreign company ever again.

The question is, did Newmont publicize their intention to sell the mine beforehand? If so, did any Ghanaian entity bid for it? I'm sure the billion-dollar deal was not negotiated and concluded in a month. By the way, now that the deal is done, the government's focus should shift to the capabilities and intentions of the new Chinese owners rather than sum Newmont earned from the sale.
