Linda Ocloo is the Greater Accra Regional Minister
Public reactions have emerged on social media following the recognition of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, as Best Performing Regional Minister for 2026 at the 6th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Awards.
The discussions intensified after videos from the awards ceremony and subsequent celebrations circulated online, with some social media users, particularly on X, questioning the basis and credibility of the award.

Some critics cited recurring flooding incidents in parts of Accra, concerns about street lighting, and sanitation challenges in the region as reasons they believe the recognition may not reflect the current state of affairs in the Greater Accra Region.
Others argued that these challenges remain key issues requiring attention and raised questions about the criteria used in selecting recipients of the award.
They further argued that the government still faces pressing challenges that warrant greater attention than award ceremonies.
Other ministers who received recognition were also not spared public criticism and backlash.

Someone decided to organize Ministers’ Awards and not one person paused to ask whether it was a good idea?

You got dressed up and accepted awards from yourselves instead of being judged by the people you serve?
What kind of self-congratulation exercise is this?

What was the criteria for this recognition? Is she really aware of what’s happening in Accra? Best Regional Minister for doing what exactly? We shouldn’t be so quick to forget where we came from. https://t.co/ksqrLrKj7m

This better be some kind of joke or prank! If it’s real, then we are not serious as a country and as a people! We deserve the leaders we have. Stop rewarding mediocrity; Accra is dark at night. Tueh! https://t.co/cchR3EY7Hh

These awards are for sale and we all know it.
It's time for the government to direct appointees not to engage with any of these award-preneurs.

Maybe it's time for a citizen-led Ministers of State Awards to give real feedback, not performative praise. Recognition should follow results, not precede them. The optics are so poor, especially when government still has major fires to put out. https://t.co/gpfYOCcTbt

The obsession with handing out awards in this country needs to be studied. If outcomes on the ground don’t match the praise, then what exactly is being rewarded?

Floods, no streetlights or poor sanitation? Jokes https://t.co/N0GxY8JXxp
Awarding yourself for doing absolutely nothing while floods are happening all over the place with people losing their livelihood is a high level of insensitivity. This and the E-levy cake are at the same level of disrespect. https://t.co/hRzhH2remR

But the thing too is so uncouth and illegal. The President who appointed you, how can you bypass the President and give yourself an award by sponsoring a table or something. What are you communicating to the Head of State?
