Best Regional Minister Award: Linda Ocloo hits back at critics

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has defended her recent recognition at the 6th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Awards, where she was named Best Regional Minister, amid growing criticisms of the credibility of the award scheme.

Speaking on Asaase Radio on Monday, June 8, 2026, she said the award did not come as a surprise, insisting her efforts in the region had been significant enough to merit recognition.]

“I wasn’t surprised by the award I received because sometimes, I keep telling people that the little effort you do, when people recognise it and give you that recognition, it empowers you to do more,” she said.

Linda Ocloo stated that she believes her work in the Greater Accra Region has been impactful, despite rising expectations from the public.

“For me, I know I’ve done a lot for the good people of Greater Accra. Yes, expectations are high, though, but I think I’ve done a lot [to] deserve that recognition,” she stated.

Her comments come after she was honoured at the awards ceremony as Best Regional Minister, a recognition that has triggered public debate, with some Ghanaians questioning the credibility of the awards in light of persistent flooding and sanitation challenges in Accra.
