National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, has called on Ghanaians to unite behind the Black Stars as the national team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Speaking to Sports World Ghana, Dr Bampoe expressed his excitement following Ghana's successful qualification for the global tournament, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the country.

The former Deputy Minister of Health revealed his long-standing admiration for the Black Stars and said he closely follows the team's progress, especially during qualification campaigns and major international competitions.

"I was very happy when Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup. I must admit I follow the Black Stars, especially during the run to major tournaments," he said.

Dr Bampoe also highlighted the important role sports play in promoting healthy lifestyles and national development. He noted that the NHIA remains committed to supporting sports-related initiatives that align with its health promotion mandate.

His remarks follow the Authority's backing of Ghana's national armwrestling team during the 15th African Armwrestling Championship hosted in Accra last month.

"We are strongly supporting His Excellency the President's Free Primary Healthcare Programme, which includes health promotion. Under this, we will continue to support sports initiatives whenever and wherever our mandate and budget allow us to do so," he stated.

With the World Cup drawing closer, Dr Bampoe expressed confidence in the Black Stars' ability to make a strong impression on the world stage and urged Ghanaians to rally behind the team.

"Let us all throw our weight and support behind the Black Stars. They have done well so far and have the potential to do even better. I'll urge the youth to exercise restraint and moderation in all that you do in your support," he urged.

According to the NHIA boss, the Black Stars remain one of Ghana's strongest symbols of national unity and have the unique ability to bring citizens together regardless of their differences.

"They have the power to unite us as Ghanaians, and I'm looking forward to great success in their campaign," he added.
