Canada has every right to make and enforce its own immigration laws, and Ghana should respect that decision instead of begging for a review. FIFA itself has made it clear that visa decisions are the responsibility of the host country, not football authorities.
At the same time, Thomas Partey remains innocent until proven guilty. He has pleaded not guilty and has not been convicted of any offence.
Interestingly, I see a strange parallel with Ghana's last AFCON triumph in 1982. Along the way, our midfield general Adolf Armah was unavailable, and a young 17-year-old Abedi Pele stepped up. The rest is history.
Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Instead of focusing on one player, Ghana should give opportunities to the next generation. Caleb Yirenkyi, Elisha Owusu and Jwesi Sibo should be trusted and allowed to prove themselves on the biggest stage.
Let's also remember that Ghana's preparations for AFCON 1982 were far from ideal, yet we still lifted the trophy. In 2026, our preparations have again been far from perfect, but football history has shown that trophies are not won in the preparation phase—they are won on the pitch.
Ghana must stop complaining, adapt, and move forward. Champions find solutions.

Why did Partey leave the UK, because until the case is decided no team would have fielded him.

Even a whole govt official writing to the Canadians shows how insensitive and lack of awareness Ghana is on this issue of women rights.

In the UK players like Benjamin Mendy when accused were never fielded until the trial was over.

No wonder Ghanaian girls are raped, assaulted and murdered at will and the only response from Ghanaians is "famma nyame"!

The World Cup is only a 1 month wonder but the effects of rape on victims is a lifetime.

The Ghana government should have coordinated with FIA ahead of time to ensure that host countries will not have issue admitting players who have pending criminal cases. The USA has granted Partey admission into the country, and it's very likely that Canada would have worked with FIFA and Ghana had these two gotten with Canada ahead of the games to diplomatically work out a solution for Partey. There were reports ahead of the games about players from some European countries being denied entry into the USA because of criminal issues, and those countries apparently worked out those issues with the USA and the targeted players who has =d previously been denied entry for friendly games eventually were granted entry into the USA for the World Cup games. So, Ghana, be proactive instead of being retroactive.
