John Dumelo is the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon
Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has revealed that his World Cup giant screen initiative has created employment opportunities for more than 110 people, particularly women and young people, within and outside the constituency.
According to the MP, the project was designed not only to provide residents with an opportunity to watch World Cup matches but also to stimulate economic activity and support local businesses.
Sharing details of the initiative in a Facebook post, Dumelo said the programme had engaged dozens of young people in various roles.
“Ten youth have been employed to mount the giant screen across the constituency,” he stated.
He further disclosed that another group of young people had been recruited to distribute refreshments at the various viewing centres.
“Thirty youth have been employed to share the refreshments across all viewing centres,” he said.
He noted that the initiative was also benefiting local food vendors through contracts awarded for the preparation of meals.
“Thirteen kenkey houses have been contracted to prepare the kenkey. That is thirteen families getting employment during this World Cup season,” Dumelo explained.

He also said the programme was creating opportunities for farmers in other parts of the country by purchasing agricultural produce that might otherwise have gone unsold.
“The maize is being sourced from the Upper East and Volta regions from farmers who have not been able to sell due to glut,” he noted.
Dumelo added that other ingredients, including fish and vegetables, were being procured from various regions, while local service providers had also been engaged to support the initiative.
“Chair rental companies in Ayawaso have been contracted to provide chairs and tables,” he said.
The MP further indicated that transport operators were also benefiting from the project.
“Several taxi drivers are on standby to help with transportation of refreshments and movement of those employed,” he stated.
Dumelo maintained that the initiative had generated substantial employment opportunities for residents and businesses.
“From the above details, direct and indirect jobs created in Ayawaso West and beyond is a little above 110 people, especially women and the youth,” he concluded.
