The Central Regional Police Command has debunked claims that parts of the body of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, were missing, insisting the body was intact when officers arrived at the scene.

In an interview with TV3, the Regional PRO, Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, said the crime scene investigation disclosed no signs of mutilation.

He explained that when the team arrived to process the scene, they observed that blood was oozing from the nose and there were small cuts on both eyebrows of the deceased.

“This news going around that somebody’s parts has been cut off, it’s not true. When the crime scene investigators processed the crime scene, from what we saw, there was no body parts missing. Everything, according to what we saw, was intact,” he said.

The police also urged the public and media practitioners to be cautious in their reporting and avoid spreading unverified information that could create fear and panic.

“To the bloggers and anyone in light term, we are urging them to stop spreading the false news. If police hasn’t released any news concerning this situation, especially this one, we urge them not to spread false news and cause fear and panic,” he noted.

Innocentia, who was reported missing last week, was found dead at the Hutchland Beach area near Duakor in Cape Coast, about 12 hours after she was last seen by her roommate.

According to the roommate, they lived together at a private hostel in Amamoma, where Innocentia received a phone call, changed into casual clothing, and left the room around 7 pm on June 11, 2026.

In a statement dated Sunday, June 14, 2026, the University of Cape Coast said police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death as authorities work to determine what led to the incident.
