Pastor Andrew Yarkwah of Kumasi-based church, The Refiners Avenue, has criticised some Christian couples for denying their spouses quality sex in marriage, describing the practice as harmful to marital relationships.
In a snippet from a sermon circulating on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 16, 2026, Pastor Yarkwah urged married couples to prioritise intimacy and sexual fulfillment as part of a healthy marriage.
He particularly addressed women who, according to him, use sex as a tool of punishment or control, believing their husbands would remain faithful because of their Christian values.

"I am tired of telling single people not to have sex and telling married people to have sex. Some of you women weaponise sex against your husbands because you know he would not cheat on you by virtue of the fear of God," he said.
The pastor also took issue with spouses who deny their partners intimacy under the guise of spiritual activities such as fasting, prolonged prayers, and other religious commitments.
"You cannot deny your spouse sex under the guise that you're in the spirit. Every day you're fasting or talking about portals. Tomorrow you're talking about dimensions and the next level. You are boring, boring in the bedroom. You're not an angel; you are a human being, and the Bible even permits it. Does the scripture not say that couples should come together quickly after fasting?" he asked.
Pastor Yarkwah argued that such attitudes have contributed to some women about marrying pastors and other deeply religious men.
He encouraged Christian couples to learn how to satisfy each other's emotional and physical needs, stressing that quality intimacy can strengthen bonds and improve marital relationships.
According to him, while some pastors avoid discussing sex and intimacy from the pulpit, he believes the subject deserves attention because of its impact on marriages.
"Some pastors gloss over this subject, but I will tell you because I'm not ready to be settling avoidable marital squabbles. Buy books and read on this subject. Learn!," he stated.
