Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi is the mayor of Kumasi
The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has issued a stern warning to a church in Bantama, directing its leaders to produce a valid building permit by the end of June or risk having the entire structure demolished.
Ofori-Agyeman made the remarks following the demolition of a church wall at Bantama M/A JHS by a task force from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and its Physical Planning and Works Department.
In a video shared on X on June 16, 2026, he stressed that no construction project can legally commence within the metropolis without approval from the Assembly.
“You must obtain a permit from the KMA before commencing any construction. If you fail to present the required documents as proof of a permit by the end of June, your church will be demolished,” he said.
AMA to continue demolishing churches without permits
He warned that if the church fails to provide evidence of a valid permit within the stipulated period, the Assembly would deploy excavators to bring down the entire building.
According to him, the KMA remains committed to enforcing planning regulations and ensuring that all developments within the city comply with approved standards.
The warning comes as the Assembly intensifies efforts to clamp down on unauthorised structures and developments across Kumasi, with officials insisting that strict adherence to building regulations is necessary to promote orderly urban development and safeguard public spaces.
