Tension run high at Santase in the Ashanti region after traders and street hawkers resisted an eviction exercise by Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The exercise aimed at clearing the site to pave way for a planned road expansion led to a confrontation between task force and traders who threatened to vote against the ruling government.
The moment was captured in a video report shared on X by THESTATENEWSS on June 17, 2026.
A visibly distraught woman lamented over the exercise which she claimed would immensely impact her livelihood, then subsequently threated to vote against the ruling NDC government for causing her distress.
โDo you want me to go and steal to feed my children? We will vote against you just as we voted against the NPP,โ one visibly distressed trader said as officials moved to clear her goods from the area.
The emotional outburst by the trader reflects the growing anxiety among affected business operators, many of whom depend on daily sales from roadside trading to support their families.
