President John Dramani Mahama joined his Ivorian counterpart, Alassane Ouattara, in Abidjan as both countries aim for stronger collaboration to safeguard the future of the cocoa industry.
The meeting was part of the Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana High-Level Summit on the Future of the Cocoa Economy, which was held on June 17, 2026.
A post made by the Ghana Presidency on X stated, “President John Dramani Mahama participated in the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana High-Level Summit on the Future of the Cocoa Economy in Abidjan, where he held bilateral discussions with President Alassane Ouattara on strengthening cooperation within the cocoa sector."
The Presidency further said that the meeting brought together officials from the two leading cocoa-producing countries to discuss measures to protect the cocoa sector and improve the lives of farmers.
The summit emphasised the role of the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative in promoting joint policies and advancing the interests of cocoa farmers in both countries.
“The meeting built on ongoing engagements under the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI), which serves as a platform for harmonising policies and promoting the shared interests of cocoa-producing communities in both countries,” the post indicated.
The two heads of state held bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation, increasing value addition, and ensuring cocoa-producing communities benefit more from the industry.
