Private legal practitioner, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has disclosed that a Ghanaian mother and her infant baby who were detained after the woman was arrested on arrival at the Accra International Airport (AIA) following her repatriation from South Africa have been granted bail.
In a post shared on Facebook on June 17, 2026, Barker-Vormawor said the High Court had granted bail to the woman and raised concerns about the country's bail system.
"The High Court has granted her bail. The vast majority of people who have no legal representation would not be able to go to a higher court for bail. We need to fix our bail system!" he stated.
Barker-Vormawor had earlier revealed in a Facebook post on June 14, 2026, that his law firm, Merton & Everett LLP, was representing the woman, who was reportedly the subject of an outstanding bench warrant issued while she was outside the country.

According to him, the woman travelled to South Africa after becoming involved in a money-related dispute with another person in Ghana.
He explained that the matter was subsequently reported to the police and, in her absence, a court issued a bench warrant for her arrest without her knowledge.
Barker-Vormawor said immigration officials arrested the woman when she arrived in Ghana on a repatriation flight and held her in custody together with her infant baby.
