In the recent past, a number of prophets have delivered prophecies across diverse topics ranging from sports and politics to social issues and even science.

Many of these declarations are presented as divine revelations, with prophets claiming God spoke to them or guided them to share the message.

When a prophecy comes to pass, these prophets are often celebrated, gaining widespread praise and sometimes attracting more followers to their churches.

Yet, just as not every pot of soup turns out perfect, not all prophecies have materialized in recent times.

This GhanaWeb article takes a closer look at notable prophecies that failed over the past years, sparking debate, criticism, and calls for greater accountability in Ghana.

'Kennedy Agyapong will win NPP Primaries'- Prophet ElBernard Nelson-Eshun

In May 2026, Prophet ElBernard Nelson-Eshun of the SpiritLife Revival Ministries made headlines when he confidently declared that Kennedy Agyapong would win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

He claimed his prophecy was divine revelation which he delivered with conviction.

However, the outcome of the primaries proved otherwise.

Instead, Ghana's former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the winner, leaving ElBernard’s prophecy unfulfilled.

The miss quickly became a subject of public debate, with critics questioning the credibility of political prophecies and their influence on Ghana’s democratic processes.

Prophet ElBernard did not however shy away from accountability as he publicly admitted his mistake, forcing him to apologise to Ghanaians, church members and followers.

'Kamala Harris will be US President' - Prophet Nigel Gaisie

Prophet Nigel Gaisie also became a subject for discussion after he predicted that Kamala Harris would win the US presidency in 2024, but turned out to favour Donald Trump instead.

When Donald Trump was declared winner, the prophecy was widely mocked both in Ghana and abroad.

Gaisie, however, defended himself by saying prophets are not “100% accurate” and admitted that mistakes are part of the prophetic calling.

'Black Stars will lose all World Cup matches' - Prophet Eric Boahen Uche

Earlier in May 2026, Prophet Eric Uche predicted that the Black Stars would lose all their group-stage matches.

According to the prophet, the current Black Stars squad is spiritually weak, and therefore, the football association and players needed to seek prayers and divine intervention from him.

“Ghana should come and see me. They will lose all three group-stage matches in the competition. I’m not joking. With humility, they should come for consultation so I can help.

“It’s the spirit that we use to play football. In the spiritual world, the team is weak. When the matches are about to be played, I will come and tell the scoreline. When I said they would lose the friendlies, they lost them, right?” he said.

The prophecy was quickly disproven when Ghana defeated Panama in their opening game.

Fans and celebrities ridiculed the prediction, with musician Captain Planet publicly criticizing the prophet.

'I saw Kufuor waving at me in a large gathering' - Bishop Daniel Obinim

Bishop Daniel Obinim, the Founder and Leader of the International God’s Way Church also in January 2026 prophecied the death of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In a video that circulated widely, Obinim claimed he had a vision of the former president waving at him and others in a large gathering which according to him meant he was about to die.

His prophecy was met with widespread criticism and disbelief. Many Ghanaians, especially on social media, accused Bishop Daniel Obinim of misleading his followers and using prophecy to influence political opinion.

Between 2016 and 2017, Bishop Daniel Obinim prophesied the deaths of several prominent Ghanaian personalities.

None of these predictions came to pass. Critics accused him of fearmongering and using shock value to maintain relevance.

Death of the Chief Imam — Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah

In 2019, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah predicted the death of Ghana’s Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The prophecy sparked outrage across the country, with religious leaders condemning it as reckless and divisive.

The Chief Imam remains alive, and the incident continues to fuel debate about the ethics of death prophecies.

In conclusion, while prophets continue to play influential roles in society, their missed predictions have fueled calls for regulation of prophetic declarations and greater responsibility in how such messages are delivered.
