The Air Force noted that mission requirements were prioritised over aesthetics
The United States Air Force has announced the arrival of its new VC-25B Bridge aircraft, a specially modified executive jet designed to transport the US president while functioning as a secure airborne command post.
The aircraft, which is a luxury Boeing 747-8 donated by the Qatari government and transferred to the Pentagon in 2025, is expected to serve as an interim presidential aircraft while Boeing completes work on the next generation of Air Force One planes.
According to the US Air Force, the VC-25B Bridge has officially joined the Presidential Airlift Group at Joint Base Andrews and will undergo a series of commissioning flights before entering full operational service.
Freshly painted in a red, white and blue livery, the aircraft is intended to support presidential travel as the ageing VC-25A fleet undergoes extensive maintenance and until Boeing delivers the long-delayed replacement aircraft.

The Air Force said the VC-25B Bridge was modified with a strong emphasis on safety, security and communications, ensuring the president remains fully connected and capable of carrying out constitutional duties from anywhere in the world.
"The safety and security of the commander in chief is our highest priority," Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink said.
"From the beginning, we meticulously evaluated every requirement to accelerate delivery while maintaining the high standards expected of the presidential mission. This effort proves that the U.S. Air Force can move fast without sacrificing quality, security, or reliability," he added.
Unlike a conventional passenger aircraft, the VC-25B Bridge is equipped with advanced secure communications systems and specialised technologies designed to protect the president while enabling uninterrupted command-and-control capabilities.
According to the US Air Force, mission requirements took precedence over aesthetics, resulting in only minimal changes to the aircraft's previous interior layout. However, the jet has been outfitted with the sophisticated security and communications systems required for presidential operations.
The US Air Force described the commissioning flights as the aircraft's "final exam," during which White House and Air Force personnel will validate its capabilities and finalise procedures for presidential travel.
Once the testing phase is completed, the aircraft will join the executive airlift fleet alongside the VC-25A and C-32 aircraft and become available for presidential missions.
To prepare for its introduction, the US Air Force launched an extensive training programme for pilots, flight crews and maintenance personnel. This included the use of a leased Atlas Air Boeing 747-8F and the acquisition of a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i as a dedicated training aircraft.
The Air Force also constructed a full-scale three-dimensional mock-up of the aircraft's interior, allowing personnel to familiarise themselves with the platform before its first commissioning flight.
Air Force Chief of Staff General Ken Wilsbach praised the rapid delivery of the aircraft.
"We are proud to deliver the VC-25B Bridge aircraft to the President," he said.
"Many thought it could not be done, but the United States Air Force was able to execute and provide a secure, reliable airborne command post on an accelerated timeline," Wilsbach added.
The Air Force said the aircraft will serve as a new approach to rapidly delivering secure, mission-ready capabilities while maintaining the rigorous standards required for presidential travel.
