Mike Oquaye Jnr's analysis is apt and any elementary economists will tell you appreciating currency attracts imports and discourages exports. That's why China, Japan and other astute nations maintained a low currency policy to prop up their export dependency economies. Historically, some JapaneseCEOs committedsuicide due to appreciating of the Yen.
Simple calculations will reveal that cocoa sold for $2000 a ton will fetch ghc40,000 @ 10 to 1 dollar but ghc60,000 @ 15 to 1 dollar. If the NDC had stabilised the Cedi without appreciation nor depreciation, it would have run one of the best economies and by now achieved a lot. The cocoa farmers crises would have been avoided as well as low farm produce prices currently happening across Ghana. The Burkinabes, Ivorians and neighbours find our produce expensive thus have shied away from buying here. Too much ignorance is a disease

I remember they saying the cedi was appreciating because gov did not pay bills- that failed- then they said it is because of the American china trade dispute- that failed- then they said Iran US war will def make is fall- that failed. Now we are suffering because we can’t export? Is that what you are saying mr okwei? My only wish is that majority Ghanaians blindered by illiteracy and tribalism can see through their deceit.
