Nikita Brown was gifted a brand-new Jetour Dashing worth GH¢400,000 by her family
Social media has once again erupted with reactions after a student of Aburi Girls Senior High School, identified as Nikita Brown, was gifted a brand-new Jetour Dashing worth GH¢400,000 by her family to celebrate completing secondary school.
Pictures of the surprise presentation, shared by Ghbase News on Facebook on June 20, captured the moment her sisters staged a surprise at her school. The visibly excited graduate was seen beaming with joy as nearly the entire school gathered to witness the spectacle.
From Gifts to Grave: How WASSCE 2026 became a spectacle
Many users have, however, criticised the public display, arguing that such gestures fuel unhealthy competition and flaunt wealth in an environment meant to promote modesty and learning.
Others expressed admiration for the family’s generosity, describing the car as a “dream gift” and praising the sisters for celebrating their sibling’s milestone.
While some drew parallels with recent debates about lavish gifts in schools, echoing concerns raised by public figures about show-off culture, others defended the family, insisting that parents have the right to reward their children however they choose.
One user wrote: "What at all is happening? It is like everyone is buying a car for their wards after SHS completion, boi."
"Omo na competition dey ground for parents that their wards have completed WASSCE oo," another user suggested on Facebook.
One more concerned user added: "Parents please relax kk; the results are not yet out."
"See how poor man pikin dey shock," another user expressed.
"So, these family members can't wait till she gets home? Pressure bɛn nono? Look at how her colleagues are watching (those with folded arms), hmmmm. How I wish the right people will put a stop to this😏," one other user added.
