You can go by yourself if you dont haveva girlfriend or boyfriend or a date. You wear a suit. On prom night, it is customary to give your date a wrist corsage or a small bouquet of flowers that complements the color of their dress. In return, your date gives you a boutonniere (a single flower or small cluster) to pin on your suit lapel..some.even book hotel.rooms, rent limousines and a driver etc..I didnt have that luxury.i think its silly for the minister to be doing this..everyone is entitled to how they want to celebrate after they graduate..if it's outside of the school's agenda,let them.you have tea hers sexing their students. You have teachers abusing students physically..you don't have the common sense to issue a memo banning such but you are going after this?

The Minister has no business canceling graduation ceremonies because he disapproves of some parents giving their graduating children lavish gifts. Yes, allow the graduation ceremonies to continue, but advise parents to hold private graduation parties away from school grounds, and at these private parties, parents can then be free to shower their graduates with whatever gifts they choose to give them. I wonder if the Minister would dismiss all teachers just because one teacher was caught having a sexual escapade with a student? That cancellation is nothing but a rush to act, an act that punishes the majority of students whose parents did not engage in the gift-giving that he disapproves of. It makes no sense to read an article and then hastily jump into action without thinking things through.

Parents should have the liberty to give their graduating children any gifts they choose as long as this isn't done at venues where the main graduation ceremonies are held. I think if the ceremonies do not cause troubles and endanger lives and properties, and are done in normal graduation proceedings lasting just few hours, this directive is misplaced. Graduation is done at the end of school year and in no way affect, disrupt academic success, teaching and learning.

If a parent think they have money they won’t to display they should find proper channels to do it rather than using our secondary school children to show their pomposity. Besides secondary school is not even a degree yet!!!! It is halfway to a degree so why the celebration? It’s like playing a football game and celebrating because you have successfully made it through halftime. JUST BECAUSE A PARENT CAN AFFORD EXTRAVAGANCE DOES NOT MEAN WE ALLOW THEM TO DO IT. The mental health and moral fabric of our TEENAGE children are at stake.

When I completed sixth form at TAMASCO in 69 you wrote your exams and quietly went home to await the results with trepidation.
How times have evolved. The only exhibition of ostentation was the weekend parade of car-ful privileged elite visiting their wards with provisions galore to the envy of those of us from villages.
There was no such thing as graduation ceremonies let alone expensive gifts of cars etc.
One may well say it is a different time.However I support the action of the minister.There is no need to blindly copy the decadent harmful Americanism. Our education system is degraded enough as it is with the extremely poorly executed so called free senior high school.
