Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is reported to be receiving medical attention following a shooting incident at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026, involving private security personnel and a gathering linked to the family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

According to multiple accounts, the incident occurred near a residence connected to the Kristo Asafo leadership succession process, where tensions had reportedly been rising over the appointment of a new leader.

Scene of the incident and allegations

Reports indicate that Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s passing had triggered internal disagreements over leadership succession, with some members supporting the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as a successor.

Eyewitnesses claim that Adwoa Safo arrived at the premises during the gathering and attempted to gain entry but the situation escalated into confusion involving gunfire and vehicle movement near the gates of the residence.

Some witnesses allege she attempted to force entry with her vehicle, while others claim armed personnel discharged warning shots after tensions escalated.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of six private security personnel in connection with the incident.

According to police statements, weapons, including pump-action shotguns and a loaded pistol were retrieved during operations and the suspects have been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist with investigations.

Authorities say preliminary findings suggest that security personnel on duty responded to a distress situation at the residence, which later escalated into the discharge of firearms.

Legal representatives’ account

A lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kofi Kantanka, claims Adwoa Safo allegedly attempted to force entry and that warning shots were fired by security personnel in response to perceived danger.

He also claimed in an interview on Joy News on June 21, 2026, that Adwoa Safo reportedly fired the gunshot first.

Eyewitness accounts

Two eyewitnesses say a vehicle repeatedly struck the gates of the residence and that gunshots were heard shortly afterward.

One witness claims the shots may have originated from a vehicle, while another says he saw no firearms among security personnel and did not observe injuries at the scene.

Police position

According to the police, investigations are ongoing, with authorities yet to issue a final determination on what exactly triggered the gunfire or who was responsible.
