No one can ever overpower Asanteman - Otumfuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that though Asanteman is powerful, he does not use the authority vested in the Golden Stool to intimidate or coerce anyone, stressing that his leadership is guided by humility, honesty, and respect.

Addressing the Asante community in Toronto on June 20, 2026, he explained that the power associated with the Golden Stool is not meant to instill fear among chiefs or subjects but to promote unity and responsible leadership within Asanteman.

He noted that traditional leaders under his authority are expected to serve with sincerity rather than out of pressure or intimidation.

“I have instructed them (chiefs) not to serve me out of fear and intimidation, but to serve me with honesty,” he stated.

The Asantehene further reinforced the symbolic strength of Asanteman, stating that no individual or group can overpower the kingdom.

However, he was clear that such strength should never be used as a tool for oppression.

“No one can overpower Asanteman. However, I don’t use the power in the Golden Stool to intimidate anyone,” he said.
