The Chairman of the Coconut Farmers Association of Ghana (COFAG) in the Volta Region, Togbe Dunenyo I, has appealed to institutions responsible for the supply of coconut seedlings to urgently support farmers in the region.

According to him, many coconut farmers are currently facing serious challenges due to delays in the distribution of seedlings.

He noted that several farmers had taken loans to acquire and prepare farmlands for coconut cultivation but have been left stranded without planting materials.

“I am having sleepless nights because farmers call me every day with complaints. Many have borrowed money to buy and clear lands, but up to now they have not received any coconut seedlings. The lands they prepared have now become overgrown with weeds and vegetation again,” he lamented in a statement on June 23, 2026.

Togbe Dunenyo I explained that the association has, over the years, encouraged many young people and women to venture into coconut farming as a source of livelihood.

He added that a recent seminar organized by the Tree Crops Development Authority has further motivated many farmers in the Volta Region to invest in and expand coconut production.

However, he warned that continued delays in supplying seedlings could weaken farmers’ confidence in the sector and make it difficult for leadership to encourage further participation in coconut farming.

Togbe Dunenyo I further called on government to support coconut farmers with fertilizers and other essential agrochemicals to improve productivity and ensure the success of coconut plantations.

The appeal comes at a critical time, as the Volta Region is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, creating favourable conditions for planting.

Farmers warn that any further delays in the supply of seedlings could cause them to miss the optimal planting window for the season.
