A portion of the Aboso-Damang road in the Western Region has caved in after recent heavy rains caused underground erosion.

Reports indicate that illegal mining activities, widely known as galamsey may have weakened the soil structure beneath the asphalt, leading to erosion on the stretch.

A video shared by Graphic Online on social media on June 25, 2026, shows road users placing tree branches and makeshift warning signs around the collapsed section to alert motorists and direct traffic away from the affected area.

The footage also captures residents directing traffic and covering parts of the cavity to prevent accidents, amid fears that unsuspecting motorists could plunge into the pit, particularly at night.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to comment on the extent of the damage or announce plans to repair the affected section of the road.
