Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has promised additional financial support for the Black Stars after visiting the team’s camp ahead of their crucial World Cup clash against Croatia on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Mahama, the founder of Engineers and Planners, met the squad and technical team, where he praised their performances so far and expressed renewed confidence in the group.

Speaking to the players, he admitted he had initially held back on fulfilling a previous pledge, saying he wanted to see improvement before committing fully.

“I was holding money back even when I pledged, and I told the minister that I won’t give you the money until I see a good performance, but now I want to rush home and give him all the money,” he said.

He recalled his long-standing connection to Ghanaian football, including attending the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, an experience he described as disappointing, which made him step away from closely following the national team for a period.

“In 2010, the president and I went to South Africa to watch the match, and we were robbed. From then on, I just said to myself that I’ll follow football again,” he said, adding that renewed interest from his family, particularly his son, brought him back into the game.

Mahama also expressed admiration for head coach Carlos Queiroz.

“I am very proud because you came in within a short time and you’ve been able to put the boys together with your wonderful performance,” he said.

He further encouraged the team with a promise of a special reward beyond government bonuses, urging them to continue their strong performances.

“Apart from the government’s bonus, I have a special bonus for you. I have a much better bonus than the taxpayers’,” he added.

Mahama concluded by urging the players to do Ghana proud in their upcoming match, as excitement builds around the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.
