Prof Richard Asiedu is the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Richard Asiedu, has denied reports that he and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, stormed Obaatanpa Radio in Kasoa to shut down the station.
According to Prof Asiedu, his visit to the station was to demand answers over what he described as false claims made about him during a programme discussing alleged internal wrangling within the NDC.
Speaking in an interview with Onua FM and monitored by GhanaWeb on June 25, 2026, he accused the radio station, which he said is owned by former Awutu Senya East MP Hawa Koomson, of consistently publishing false reports about the NDC.

"There is a station in Kasoa called Obaatanpa Radio belonging to a former MP, Hawa Koomson. The activities of the station have never promoted peace in Kasoa, but violence. They are always discussing the internal issues within the NDC, but their reportage is never accurate. They deliberately spread lies," he said.
Prof Asiedu explained that he decided to confront the station after watching a video in which claims were made about him concerning the Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament and the constituency chairman.
"What even pained me was that I was in a meeting yesterday when someone shared a video with me of the radio station purporting certain claims about me regarding the Awutu Senya East MP and the constituency chairman.
"I noticed that they deliberately wanted to rope me in because they had realised there was going to be peace in the party and constituency, just to distract the whole process. The things they said about me were all false. I expected them to reach out to me and speak to me to find out the truth of the entire issues but they instead sat on their platform and lied," he stated.
He said he later went to the station with the MCE to meet management and seek clarification on the source of the claims.
"I mobilised myself and went to Kasoa, and met with the MCE, who accompanied me to the station. The purpose of our visit was to meet management and ask them where they got their claims about me from," he explained.
Prof Asiedu further claimed that staff at the station allegedly became hostile after they requested to see the manager, adding that some NDC supporters also gathered at the premises after hearing about the reports.
"When we got there, they were very hostile to us after we requested to see the manager. They told us the manager was unavailable, so we decided to engage the workers. One of the workers started misbehaving towards us. Unknowingly to me, some of our party members had also heard the issue of the radio station tarnishing my image, so they had mobilised themselves to come to the radio station,” he explained.
According to him, he instructed that the station be locked and the keys handed over to the police after a crowd gathered at the premises to prevent anyone from forcing their way into the building.
"Due to the crowd, I asked that they lock up the radio station and hand over the keys to the police, whom we had called," he added.
He also disclosed that he has filed a suit against Obaatanpa Radio at the High Court.
The response follows reports that emerged on Thursday, June 25, 2026, alleging that Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini and Prof Asiedu, accompanied by a group of thugs, stormed the studios of Obaatanpa Radio in Kasoa and assaulted journalists while discussions on alleged divisions within the Awutu Senya East NDC were ongoing.

Videos shared by Citi FM and Accra FM showed a heavy police presence at the station and staff members gathered outside the premises.
However, the footage did not capture the alleged thugs or the two NDC officials who were accused of orchestrating the incident.
