Two people have lost their lives while four others sustained injuries following a head-on collision at Abease on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway.

According to a post shared on the Facebook page of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on June 26, 2026, the crash involved a Sinotruck and a Nigerian passenger bus.

It noted that it received a distress call around 11:58 am, prompting the immediate dispatch of a rescue team aboard appliance DPT 465.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found five occupants of the passenger bus and one occupant of the tipper truck trapped in the wreckage.

Three had already been rescued by onlookers before the arrival of the emergency team.

The GNFS said rescue operations were carried out, and four injured victims were transported to the Elubo Government Hospital for treatment.

However, the driver of the passenger bus died at the scene, while the mate of the tipper truck later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation.

It further disclosed that preliminary investigations found that the crash occurred after the bus driver allegedly swerved to avoid a pothole and veered into the lane of the oncoming truck, resulting in the collision.

Following the rescue operation, firefighters disconnected the vehicles' battery terminals, cooled an overheated engine compartment, and cleared debris from the roadway to restore normal traffic flow.
