According to Professor Dickson, Ghanaians working in Obuasi Mines used to steal gold nuggets underground and hide them in their body parts and so the mining companies employed electromagnetic sensors that make the kwerekwere sound. These sensors caught a lot of Ghanaians and so these machines were nick named kwerekwere. I am sure operators of these machines sere South Africans who have named Ghanaians as Amakwerekweres.
