Justice Srem Sai (L) has detailed Torkornoo's (R) cases at the Supreme Court
Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem Sai, has provided details on the Supreme Court cases involving former Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, following the withdrawal of her review application.
According to him in a series of X post on Saturday, June 27, 2026, five cases were originally filed at the Supreme Court in relation to her removal process. One of the cases was later abandoned and struck out, leaving four cases still pending before the court.

He explained that the latest developments relate to two of the remaining four cases, which involve the same set of issues.
Justice Srem-Sai said in one of the cases, Justice Torkornoo is a defendant together with the Attorney General, while in the other she is the plaintiff, with the Attorney General as the defendant.
“In one of the two cases, Her Ladyship is a Defendant, along with the A G. In the other, Her Ladyship is the Plaintiff with the A G as the Defendant. The two cases were on the same issues,” portions of his post read.
He noted that although the parties differ in position, both cases raise the same legal questions.
Dr Srem Sai further stated that different lawyers represented Justice Torkornoo in the two cases. He added that she filed her statement of case in one of them but failed to do so in the other for more than a year.
“A different lawyer represented Her Ladyship in each of the two cases. Her Ladyship filed a statement of her case in one of the cases, but has, over a year on, defaulted in filing a statement in the other,” he continued.
According to him, on May 28, 2026, the Supreme Court consolidated the two cases and adjourned the matter for judgment, while allowing Justice Torkornoo leave to file her statement at any time before judgment.
He said only one of her lawyers was present in court on that day, while the other had written to the court indicating his intention to withdraw from the case.
“On May 28, the Supreme Court consolidated the two cases and adjourned for judgement, while giving Her Lady free leave to file her statement anytime before judgement. On the day, one of Her Ladyship’s two lawyers was present in court. The other sent a letter to the Court seeking to withdraw his services,” he stated.
Justice Srem-Sai explained that on June 23, 2026, the lawyer who was present in court filed an application asking the Supreme Court to review its consolidation order. The application argued that Justice Torkornoo was not given a hearing before the decision was made.
He added that the application also claimed the consolidation was improper because one of her lawyers was not physically present in court when the order was issued.
According to him, on June 25, 2026, the Attorney General filed an affidavit opposing the review application. He said the AG argued that the application lacked merit, insisting that Justice Torkornoo had been properly represented and given an opportunity to file her case.
He further stated that on June 26, 2026, the lawyer for Justice Torkornoo filed a notice withdrawing the review application.

“Now, this is the twist: On Friday, June 26, yesterday, Her Ladyship’s lawyer filed a notice to withdraw the review application,” he shared.
The Supreme Court has scheduled July 2, 2026, to determine all outstanding issues in the four remaining cases.
Five cases were filed in the Supreme Court on Her Ladyship Justice Torkornoo’s removal. One was abandoned and got struck out, leaving four pending. This note is on two of the remaining four cases.
