A 10-year-old pupil with aspirations of becoming Ghana's first female president received words of encouragement from former President John Agyekum Kufuor during a visit to his residence.

The young girl, a pupil of Executive Senators International School in Kasoa, visited the former president with her school on June 25, 2026.

In snippets of the visit widely circulated on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 28, 2026, Kufuor encouraged the pupil to pursue her dream, assuring her that it was achievable with adequate preparation.

"It is very, very possible that we would have some lady become president," the former president said.

Kufuor explained that under Ghana's current Constitution, a presidential candidate must be at least 40 years old, meaning the 10-year-old still had about 30 years to prepare herself for the office.

"At age 10, if we are going by the current Constitution, I would say you have about 30 years to prepare yourself to become qualified to be considered for the presidency. But already, some people have been suggesting that at age 30, you could be considered.

"Meaning, if the people should agree to that in the Constitution; that's in the works, then you have about 20 years to prepare yourself to be considered. And it's possible that people may give it to you," he stated.

The former president pointed to the increasing representation of women in Ghana's leadership positions as evidence that the country was making progress toward greater gender inclusion.

"I say it is possible because already, when you look at the institutions of state, like the Executive Presidency, Parliament, and the Judiciary, these are the three main arms of government.

"In the Judiciary, within the past 30 years or so, we have already had three female Chief Justices. Before then, it was always men.

"We've also had, I think, a female Speaker of Parliament. And now, for the first time, we have a female Vice President," he said.

The interaction has since attracted admiration on social media, with many users praising Kufuor for inspiring the young girl to pursue her ambition of one day leading the country.
