Heavy rains that hit Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026, left behind scenes of widespread destruction. However, for some residents, the floods also became an opportunity to collect goods washed away from a warehouse.
Videos shared on social media show dozens of people carrying away items, including food products, toiletries, gas cylinders and electrical appliances, after floodwaters swept them onto the Tema Motorway and nearby roads.
The warehouse from which the goods were washed away has not yet been identified, and authorities are yet to confirm the value of the items lost or the extent of the damage caused by the flooding.

The floods disrupted movement across several parts of the capital, with many roads becoming impassable and vehicles stranded in rising waters.
Homes and businesses were also affected as the rains continued throughout the morning.
Some of the worst-hit areas included the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, where parts of the underpass were submerged, as well as Tse Addo, Alajo, Achimota, Dzorwulu, Tesano, Weija, Mallam, Spintex, Apenkwa and sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
Emergency response teams were deployed to affected areas, while the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) advised residents in flood-prone communities to avoid flooded roads and relocate to safer places where necessary.
The agency also urged the public to follow safety instructions as rescue operations continue.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister has appealed to residents of Accra to work from home where possible to reduce movement while authorities manage the flooding.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has also warned that more rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours and urged the public to remain alert.
