A video has emerged on social media showing large amounts of waste dumped along the shoreline in La after being carried through gutters and washed into the sea during heavy rains.
The footage, shared by X Ghana on June 30, 2026, captures piles of plastic waste and other debris scattered across the beach.
We lost everything' - Dzorwulu flood victims count heavy losses
The refuse is believed to have been washed from blocked gutters and drains into the ocean before being pushed back onto the shore by waves.
In the video, residents of the community are seen expressing concern over the situation, warning that the practice of dumping waste into gutters is worsening both coastal pollution and recurring flooding in parts of Accra.
They noted that blocked drains not only cause floodwaters to overflow into homes and streets during heavy rains but also serve as channels that carry waste directly into the sea.
They have appealed to the public to adopt proper waste disposal practices, stressing that keeping gutters clear is key to reducing flood risks and protecting the coastline from further degradation.
