Following the unprecedented flooding in Ghana’s capital, Accra, and other communities, GhanaWeb visited several affected communities to assess the extent of the damage.
The team found that the floodwaters had receded in almost all of the affected areas, but signs of the flooding were evident.
The gutters and streets in these areas were filled with huge volumes of filth and silt that blocked the waterways and caused the floods.
Also visible in the affected areas were the wreckage of structures that were destroyed by the floodwaters, as well as carcasses of animals killed in the floods.
Residents who spoke to GhanaWeb dreaded the loss of property and lives.
Some narrated how they had also lost their livelihoods to the flood and called for assistance from the government.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has disclosed that 38,802 individuals have been displaced by the flooding, which affected 7,761 households.
The Minister also confirmed that 12 deaths were recorded in the floods, with seven persons still missing.
