A married man, identified as Daniel Obeng, is seeking a DNA test for two children he had with his side partner, Mary Mensah, after a prolonged legal dispute over his properties.

According to Daniel, his wife was unable to conceive, leading him to begin a relationship with Mary while still married.

He said they had two children together but over the years, their relationship had faced certain challenges.

Daniel claims that, based on his observations, the children do not resemble him, prompting him to seek a DNA test to confirm whether he is their biological father.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson Afisem on Lawson TV on June 26, 2026, a programme that discusses domestic issues, Daniel alleged that Mary has repeatedly dragged him to court over his properties and as a result, he wants clarity.

He maintained that although he is willing to continue supporting the children, he first wants confirmation that they are indeed his.

“We are not together anymore but I have realised that the characteristics of the children do not tally with mine, so I want to conduct a DNA test on them. One of them is 17 years old and the other is 20.

“I was taking care of the children but when I lost my job, she started maltreating me.

“She took me to court, claiming that I was not taking care of the children. However, I presented all the receipts of the school fees I had paid and the judge realised that I have been fulfilling my responsibilities.

“She then demanded GH¢50,000 in damages from me in court. She took me to the Magistrate Court in Bibiani, DOVVSU, the High Court in Sefwi Wiawso and later the Circuit Court in Bibiani, where judgment was eventually delivered.

“She also demanded a share in my house, claiming that she contributed to its construction,” he said.

When Mary was contacted during the programme, she denied Daniel's claims.

“What he is saying is not true. We were in a relationship and when I became pregnant, he came to name the child. We were living together peacefully.

“After we gave birth to our second child, he stopped taking care of the children. He was only coming to visit my house from time to time. The matter is already before the court, so I would prefer to speak after consulting my lawyer and my father,” she said.

Expressing regret over the situation, Daniel added, “If I could turn back the hands of time, I would never have stepped outside my marriage. My wife, Philomina Obeng, may God bless you and help you.”
