President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, discipline and patriotism, stressing that the country's development depends not only on government policies but also on the moral values and daily actions of its citizens.

He made the call at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, where he said national transformation begins with a renewed commitment to God and one another.

Addressing the gathering, the President said the occasion was an opportunity for Ghanaians to give thanks to God despite the country's challenges, including the recent devastating floods.

He noted that Ghana's history has always been marked by faith in God during moments of triumph and adversity, adding that the nation must continue to rely on divine guidance while remaining united.

"Today, we gather not as members of different political parties, ethnic groups or religions, but as one people under God. We come with grateful hearts, acknowledging that every blessing we enjoy ultimately comes from Him," President Mahama said.

Speaking on the theme,"Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want," the President said laws and government programmes alone cannot produce an honest and prosperous nation.

According to him, integrity, compassion and patriotism are personal choices that must be reflected in every sector of society, from classrooms and hospitals to public offices, newsrooms and homes.

He stressed that Ghana's progress would not be measured solely by infrastructure projects or economic reforms but by the collective decisions of ordinary citizens to do what is right every day.

President Mahama added that the country's achievements have been made possible through a combination of faith, responsible leadership and the resilience of the Ghanaian people.

Highlighting Ghana's economic recovery, the President described the country's recent progress as remarkable, attributing it to disciplined economic management, fiscal reforms and the sacrifices of citizens.

However, he acknowledged that many families still face financial difficulties, while youth unemployment and limited access to affordable credit for businesses remain major concerns.

"Our work is therefore not finished. Our task is to consolidate these gains and ensure that every Ghanaian shares in the benefits of our national progress," he stated.

President Mahama also appealed for national unity, urging Ghanaians to reject corruption, division and intolerance.

He said although citizens belong to different ethnic groups, religions and political traditions, they share one common identity as Ghanaians and must work together to secure the country's future.

"Before we belong to political parties, we belong to Ghana. Before we identify with tribe, region or religion, we are citizens of one republic," he said, calling on the nation to embrace dialogue, service and hope over hostility and self-interest.

The President further expressed appreciation to religious leaders, traditional authorities, public servants, security personnel, business leaders, farmers, workers and young people for their contributions to national development.

He encouraged each group to continue serving with dedication, professionalism and integrity while assuring the private sector of government's commitment to creating an environment that supports enterprise and job creation.

Concluding his address, President Mahama urged Ghanaians to make the National Day of Christian Prayer and Thanksgiving a turning point in rebuilding the country's moral foundation.

He said the Ghana citizens desire will be built not only in Parliament or at the Presidency but also in homes, schools, markets, offices and farms through honesty, compassion and service.

He expressed confidence that with faith in God, responsible leadership and national unity, Ghana can achieve lasting prosperity for future generations.
