Ghana booked their place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite one of the least clinical attacks in the tournament.

The Black Stars have been ranked 47th out of 48 teams for shot conversion rate after the group stage, converting just 13.3% of their attempts into goals.

Only Iraq have been less efficient, with a conversion rate of 4.8%.

At the other end of the rankings, France lead the way with a shot conversion rate of 33.3%, followed by Brazil on 28.6% and Spain on 27.8%, highlighting the gap between Ghana and the tournament’s most ruthless attacking sides.

The statistics become even more concerning when it comes to accuracy. Ghana are averaging just 1.3 shots on target per game, the second-lowest figure at the World Cup, with only Iraq (0.7) producing fewer.

In contrast, France average 9.0 shots on target per match, Germany 7.0, while Brazil have managed 6.3.

Despite those numbers, Carlos Queiroz’s men have secured a place in the Round of 32 through disciplined defending and resilience.

Carlos Queiroz’s side have relied heavily on their defensive organisation to progress.

Ghana opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Croatia before earning a hard-fought goalless draw against England and sealing qualification with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama.

While the Black Stars have shown resilience and discipline at the back, the numbers suggest they have struggled to create and convert clear-cut chances compared to the rest of the teams in the competition.

The concern now shifts to the knockout stage, where missed opportunities can prove costly.

However, the numbers suggest the Black Stars will need to become far more ruthless if they are to continue their World Cup journey.

Ghana face Colombia in the Round of 32 on Saturday, July 4, 2026, where chances are expected to be at a premium.

Against one of South America’s strongest sides, improving both the volume and quality of their efforts on goal could prove the difference between extending their campaign and heading home.
