Ghana’s inflation rate rose to 5.3 per cent in June, marking the third consecutive month of rising consumer prices.

This was made known by the Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, while releasing the latest Consumer Price Index report in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Food inflation inched up modestly, moving from 3.3 per cent in May to 3.9 per cent in June. Non-food inflation, however, jumped more sharply, rising from 4.1 per cent to 6.3 per cent, making it the main driver of the overall increase.

Even with the recent uptick, inflation remains far below the 13.7 per cent recorded in June 2025, suggesting that price pressures have eased considerably compared to last year.

Locally produced goods, on the other hand, continue to exert the strongest influence on inflation.

Prices for local products rose to 6.7 per cent in June from 5.0 per cent in May, accounting for more than 86 per cent of headline inflation.

Imported goods also saw higher inflation, climbing to 2.3 per cent from 0.9 per cent.

Sectoral data revealed that inflation was more pronounced in services, though it eased slightly to 9.4 per cent from 9.9 per cent in May. Inflation for goods accelerated sharply, rising to 3.7 per cent from 1.4 per cent.

Dr Iddrisu attributed the pressures mainly to rising costs in services such as transport, housing, education, and accommodation, while noting that locally produced items remain the biggest source of price increases.
