Confusion as two DNA tests fail to establish paternity but wife insists child belongs to husband

An Italy-based Ghanaian, Philip Kwakye, is demanding compensation from his legally wedded wife, Elizabeth Boatemaa, from Offinso in the Ashanti Region, after two separate DNA tests allegedly confirmed that a child she claims is his, is not biologically related to him.

According to Kwakye, shortly after marrying Elizabeth, he travelled to Italy to work and support the family financially.

He explained that before his departure, pregnancy tests conducted on his wife showed that she was not pregnant.

However, months later, Elizabeth informed him that she was expecting a baby.

She allegedly claimed that a subsequent test had confirmed the pregnancy and that her pastor had prayed for a "hidden" pregnancy to manifest.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson Afisem on Lawson TV, a programme that resolves domestic disputes and whose excerpts have gone viral on social media, Kwakye said he became suspicious about the child's paternity despite fulfilling all his responsibilities as a husband.

"I had doubts because my wife was not pregnant when I left Ghana, so I decided to secretly conduct a DNA test," he stated.

According to him, the test results showed that he is not the biological father of the child.

Kwakye further revealed that after informing his wife and her family about the results, they rejected the findings, arguing that the test had been conducted without their knowledge or consent.

He claimed that his mother-in-law insisted that "DNA is nothing" and urged him to continue taking care of the child because they are one family.

The Italy-based man said the issue later ended up in court after his wife accused him of neglecting his responsibilities toward the child.

He told the court that he doubted the child's paternity and presented the initial DNA results as evidence.

The court ordered a second DNA test, which also reportedly confirmed that he is not the biological father.

Despite the two test results, Kwakye says his wife continues to insist that he is the father of the child.

"I want compensation for taking care of someone else's child and I also want to know who the real father is because I am still legally married to her, though I want us to divorce," he said.
