UK police launch manhunt for Ghanaian convicted in drunk-driving crash that killed baby

Police in the UK are searching for a 31-year-old Ghanaian national, who has been convicted of causing the death of his 7-month-old daughter in a drunk-driving crash, but failed to appear in court for sentencing.

According to a statement issued by the Thames Valley Police on June 29, 2026, the incident happened in December 2022 in Milton Keynes when Emmanuel Sakyi

allegedly drove his grey Peugeot 508 on the wrong side of the road before colliding with an oncoming Fiat 500.

His daughter, Emmanuela, aged seven months at the time, was seated on her mother’s lap in the front passenger seat without proper restraint, suffered serious injuries and later died in the hospital.

At Aylesbury Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of causing death by dangerous driving after evidence showed he was driving at twice the legal alcohol limit, ignored warnings from other motorists, and fled the scene after the crash.

He was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison and banned from driving for 18 years after failing to appear for the conclusion of his trial.

Lead investigating officer Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said enquiries have been ongoing to locate Sakyi, and officers are now appealing to the public for help in finding him.

"This is a devastating case where a child’s life has been lost. Our enquiries are focused on ensuring Sakyi faces the consequences of his actions.

“Anyone with information on Sakyi’s whereabouts is asked to call 101 or make a report online, quoting reference 20260622-2396", the statement said.
