President Mahama criticised the Black Stars’ performance in 2024
An old video of President John Dramani Mahama commenting on the performance of Ghana's Black Stars during the 2024 election campaign has resurfaced on social media following the team's elimination from the FIFA World Cup.
The video has gained renewed attention after Ghana's journey came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 at Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3, 2026.

In the resurfaced video, Mahama used the state of Ghana's national football team to describe challenges facing the country.
"Everything is not working in this country. If you look at sports, it is the same. The Black Stars cannot even score a goal," he said during a campaign event in 2024.
Meanwhile, Ghana's hopes of progressing further in the tournament were dashed after Jhon Arias scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute.
Colombia will play Switzerland on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in Vancouver for a spot in the quarterfinals.
