The PP (Progress Party) used the "alliance compliance order" send away masses of illegal foreigners resident in the country at that time, gave all employers and organisations , corperate and government authorities and private businessmen and owners the chance and right to apply for the necessary documents for their employees/workers to stay. It was a tragedy and chaotic! Most of the offers were Nigerians and so had their revenge in 1983 "Ghana must Go" and the "Black Maria" incidence! Meanwhile South African Blacks were enjoying high level privilages and treatment here in Ghana; in schools at all levels, scholarships etc!!! Again, the Alliance Compliance Order was not initiated by some mob or thugs but was rather a govt policy. Moreover, it was not meant to drive foreigners from Ghana and loot/burn their shops, but required them to either regularize their stay or leave the country. Those who regularized their stay remained in Ghana. Those who did not understand the order packed and left.
