  Short answer: *Not a continuous active passenger/freight line Tema ↔ Takoradi today*.
  
  But the tracks exist - it’s complicated.
  
  *1. Current status 2026*
  Section Status Details
  **Tema → Accra → Kumasi** Active, standard gauge This is the “Tema-Mpakadan line”. 97.7km Tema-Mpakadan opened 2024. Govt extended standard gauge toward Kumasi in phases.
  **Accra → Takoradi** Partially active, narrow gauge + rehab Old 300km narrow gauge line from Accra through Winneba, Cape Coast to Takoradi exists. Some sections carry cargo like cement/clinker. Passenger service stopped years ago.
  **Tema ↔ Accra** Connected Standard gauge from Tema port runs into Accra. But it doesn’t yet connect seamlessly to the old Accra-Takoradi narrow gauge.
  So you can’t load a container at Tema Port and rail it all the way to Takoradi port today without breaking bulk/using trucks.
  
  *2. Why the gap exists*
  1. *Gauge mismatch*: Tema-Mpakadan + Accra-Kumasi is *standard gauge 1435mm*. Old Accra-Takoradi line is *narrow gauge 1067mm*. Trains can’t run across both.
  2. *Condition*: The Accra-Takoradi narrow gauge was run down for 30+ years. GRDA is rehabbing it, but full commercial ops aren’t back yet.
  3. *Priority*: Govt focused money on Eastern Corridor Tema-Mpakadan-Kumasi and Boankra first, because of Burkina/Sahel transit. Western Corridor Accra-Takoradi came second.
  
  *3. What’s being done*
  GRDA’s Master Plan has “Western Corridor” Accra-Takoradi-Huni Valley-Kumasi for conversion to standard gauge.
  1. *Phase 1*: Accra-Takoradi 300km standard gauge is in design/feasibility stage.
  2. *Takoradi Port*: Already has rail access inside port for bulk cargo like bauxite, manganese from Western Region. Just not connected to Tema/Accra yet.
  3. *Tema-Takoradi by rail*: Would need either: a) Full standard gauge Accra-Takoradi built, or b) Transshipment at Accra.
  
  *4. Why it matters for your Tema-Boankra-Burkina idea*
  If Ghana later connects Tema ↔ Takoradi by standard gauge, you get 2 sea ports feeding Boankra + Sahel. That’s redundancy + more cargo.
  
  Kenya only has Mombasa. Ghana would have Tema + Takoradi both on SGR. Landlocked countries love that - competition keeps port fees down.
  
  *Bottom line*: Tracks exist, but no through train Tema-Takoradi yet. Gauge difference + rehab is the blocker. Western Corridor conversion is next after Eastern Corridor.
