For many women, reaching menopause, which typically starts in their late 40s or early 50s, means an end to their dream of becoming mothers. But one Ghanaian woman, Doris, has defied all odds and has become one of the very few women to give birth at the age of 61.

For several decades, 61-year-old Doris carried a dream that many believed would never be fulfilled. Year after year, she endured the heartbreak of childlessness, the whispers of society, and the uncertainty of whether she would ever experience the joy of becoming a mother.

She is holding her first child in her arms after successfully conceiving through enhanced in vitro fertilisation (IVF), a moment she describes as the greatest blessing of her life.

Her remarkable journey has drawn inevitable comparisons to the biblical story of Sarah, who, according to Scripture, gave birth to Isaac in her old age after years of waiting. Like Sarah, Doris' path to motherhood was marked by decades of hope, unwavering faith, and resilience in the face of disappointment.

Madam Doris, on her 62nd birthday on July 7, 2026, just five days after giving birth to her miracle baby girl, shared her journey to motherhood.

The 62-year-old said that she never gave up on her dream despite the many obstacles she faced, including developing fibroids and undergoing surgeries to remove them.

She indicated that she persevered to achieve her dream in spite of the challenges and discouragement from people, including her family, adding that the main thing that kept her strong in her quest was prayer.

She also touted the role of her spiritual father, Prophet Nana Degraft, who she said was by her side every step of the way.

She also thanked the medical team at the hospital that took her through the process, from the IVF procedure to the childbirth, praising their professionalism and dedication, and adding that she is so proud to be a mother now.

“I don’t feel ashamed because this is the doing of the Lord.

For women who are struggling with childbirth, Madam Doris had a simple message for them: believe.

“For women who are so desperate, who are crying, please don’t (sic), don't give up,” she said.
