Angry youth in Sefwi Asawinso, armed with cutlasses, have been captured in viral video destroying a police barrier after they allegedly chased away officers stationed there.

According to the video on social media sighted by GhanaWeb on July 8, 2026, the incident stem from an allegation that a police officer had killed one of their residents.

The development has led to tension between the residents and personnel of the Ghana Police Service.

In the widely circulated video, some of the residents were seen destroying a police post in the town.

About three men, with one standing behind them, were captured wielding weapons and smashing the building and its roofing.

A man behind the camera could be heard saying that the police officers had fled for their lives, leaving the post to be destroyed by the residents.

Meanwhile, two people have reportedly been killed and two others sustained gunshot injuries following an earlier confrontation between police officers and residents.

The incident allegedly occurred when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command entered the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.

Some residents attempted to resist the arrest, leading to a violent clash during which the police allegedly opened fire.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and fractures.

Another person is reportedly missing, with residents expressing fears that the individual may also have been shot.
