Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, has stepped in to cover the medical expenses of Abdul-Samed Sulemana, popularly known as Awuche, the man believed to be the tallest in Ghana.

Ibrahim Mahama's intervention follows a public appeal by Awuche, who sought financial support after his health deteriorated due to gigantism.

He was referred from the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Nalerigu to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), where doctors reportedly recommended the amputation of his left leg after a severe infection caused part of it to rot.

According to Rafik Mahama, aide to Ibrahim Mahama, he had contacted Awuche and his family to assure them of his support and will pay for Awuche's hospital bills, including the cost of his treatment and surgery.

"On behalf of Mr Ibrahim Mahama, I have reached out to Awuche and his family to assure them of our full support during this challenging time.

"Mr Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to fully cover Awuche's hospital bills, including the costs of his medical treatment and surgery,” he added.

Rafik added that arrangements had been made for Awuche to travel to the Tamale Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, July 8, 2026, where he has safely arrived and started the required medical procedures.

"Special arrangements were also made for Awuche to travel to Tamale today, July 8, 2026, where he has safely arrived and begun the necessary medical procedures at the Tamale Teaching Hospital," Rafik Mahama stated.

He appealed to the public to continue praying for Awuche as he undergoes treatment.

"At this stage, we kindly ask the public to continue keeping him in their prayers as he embarks on his treatment and recovery journey. We wish Awuche a successful procedure, a smooth recovery, and a full return to good health," he added.

The 33-year-old Awuche is believed to be Ghana's tallest man at 7 feet 8 inches. A native of Gambaga in the North East Region, he has reportedly been battling gigantism for several years.
